Policy Services

The Policy Services comprise the Government Secretariat for EU Affairs, Government Communications Unit, Government Session Unit and Policy-analysis Unit.

 

Government Secretariat for EU Affairs

The role of the Government Secretariat for EU Affairs is to coordinate preparation and handling of issues relating to the European Union in the ministries. The Secretariat is responsible for action relating to institutional questions and general development of the EU. It also considers issues concerning the amendment of the Treaties of the European Union. Government Secretariat for EU Affairs assists the Prime Minister in the preparation for European Council meetings and coordination of issues considered at the Council meetings.

 

Government Communications Unit

Government Communications Unit is responsible for providing information about the Prime Minister and the Government and it coordinates the distribution of information by the ministries. It also assists the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in questions relating to dissemination of information. The Communications Unit disseminates information on Government decisions and informal meetings, evening sessions and cabinet committees, organises press conferences for the Prime Minister and the Government as a whole, and sees to the distribution of Government information on the EU and related planning, management and other functions.

 

Government Session Unit

The Government Session Unit handles the practical arrangements, minutes and extracts of the minutes relating to decision-making by the President of the Republic and the Government, provides guidelines for presentation procedures, at the same time constantly developing decision-making procedures and Government-related legislation. The unit assists in the coordination of work of the Government and that of Parliament and handles official contacts between the Government and Parliament, including written parliamentary questions and question time. The Government Session Unit edits the Government’s annual report and assists in all matters relating to a change of cabinet and the ongoing day-to-day work of the Government in general.

 

Policy-analysis Unit

The Policy-analysis Unit is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Government Programme, providing planning and analytical services for the Government and handling the functions assigned to the Secretariat of the Economic Council.
