Growth Initiative

Growth Project

In the spring of 2009, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen launched the Growth Initiative in an endeavour to establish what needs to be done in order to promote economic growth.  A working group led by Mr Antti Tanskanen was appointed to identify measures to boost productivity growth in Finland during the 2010s.

The objective of the initiative was to generate public discussion and make policy recommendations to promote economic growth across the entire country in the context of current global economic developments, environmental factors and the need for social sustainability. The working group had a particular focus on evaluating the impact of the State and the wider public sector on economic growth.

The working group submitted its final report on 30 August 2010. An interim report was published on 17 February 2010, at the same time with an on-line discussion forum for citizens. Through the forum, the working group invited people to participate in brainstorming for new ideas and ways to create sustainable growth. The web discussion was drawn upon in the drafting of the final report.
