Informal meeting of EU leaders to focus on financial issues
Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council has convened members of the European Council to an informal meeting to be held on Thursday, 11 February. The meeting in Brussels will focus on discussing how to speed up economic growth in the Union after the recession. Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen will represent Finland at the meeting.
The EU Heads of State or Government will discuss the EU growth and jobs strategy for the period after 2010. The European Commission is to issue its proposal for the strategy at the beginning of March. The European Council is expected to make final decisions on the issue at its meeting in June.
Another main theme of the informal meeting is the follow-up to the Copenhagen Climate Conference.
